Cyprus is a perfect all-year location for hiking holidays, although the month June-September are quite hot. If you cannot avoid summertime because of your personal holiday planning restrictions, we can choose areas and starting times of our hikes accordingly.
It’s not only hiking, according to the program we visit many places of interest on our daily tours, and the entrance fees are included in the package price.
IMPORTANT NOTE: to enjoy our programs in Cyprus, we will not bother you with factory shopping stops like carpet and leather! We will only advise you if you are interested in local products like wine, Halloumi, Zivania and many more.
For more information and prices please check the TRIP TYPES section!
On the arrival day we pick you up at the airport of Larnaca (LCA) or Nicosia (ECN) according to your arranged flight. Your CYPRUSTRAVEL guide welcomes you and gives you all the necessary information for an amazing week on the wonderful island of Cyprus.
Depending on your arrival time we offer you a walking tour in the historic centre of Nicosia.
Medium difficult, 10km, 300m ascent.
On this hike from Vounos to Bellapais we cross the Besparmak (Five–Finger) Mountains from South to North. The end point of this magnificent hike is Bellapais Abbey, one of the most beautiful examples of Gothic style architecture in Cyprus.
Before returning to Nicosia, we will enjoy a stroll along the picturesque harbour of Kyrenia that is dominated by the impressive 16th century fortress.
Medium difficult, 10km, 500m ascent
After a short transfer from Nicosia, we start our hike in the beautiful mountain village of Karmi on the southern slope of the Five-Finger-Mountains. After a demanding hike we reach the crusader castle of Saint Hilarion. Here we are rewarded with magnificent views over the coastal town of Kyrenia. Saint Hilarion Castle is one of three crusader castles on the mountain range. With the highest point at 732m it dominates the western part of the Five-Finger-Mountains.
Easy, 7/14km, 150m ascent.
Today we are crossing the checkpoint Ledra Palace in Nicosia. From here we are transferred close to the highest point of Cyprus, the Chionistra with 1952 meters. On the way we visit the mining museum in Amiantos that reminds us of the importance of mining in the pastimes of Cyprus.
According to the season, the current weather conditions, and the hikers’ condition we have a different choice of trails. Two of the trails, the 7km Artemis Trail or the 14km Atalante Trail circle the peak of the Chionistra on different height levels.
Easy, 12km, 300m ascent.
We are checking out from Sun Hotel in Nicosia and are heading west to the coastal village of Agia Irini. From here we start our hike along the shoreline of the northern part of the bay of Morphou/Güzelyurt. On this hike we find traces of ancient settlements and remains from the 20th century troubled history of the island of Cyprus.
Endpoint of this amazing hike is the Maronite village of Kormacit, a village inhabited by the Christian Maronite community of Cyprus. Our accommodation for the next day will be in one of the historic village houses.
Difficult, 12km, 580m ascent.
Our accommodations in Kormacit have the fantastic advantage that we can start our walks directly without a transfer. Today we are heading North to the beautiful bay of Kornos with the small chapel “Saint George of the seeds”. That chapel is the destination of an annual pilgrimage to thank the patron of the village for a rich harvest.
This demanding hike rewards you again with fantastic views from the green slopes of the Five-Finger-Mountains to the azure blue Mediterranean Sea.
Easy, 12km, 200m ascent.
In March and April, in the valleys around the Maronite Village of Kormacit you can find the endemic dark-red tulip of Cyprus. The rare Tulipa Cypria grows only in 5 areas on the island, and here is probably the most beautiful one of them. After a long photo stop at the tulip site, we continue our hike through the green valleys and beautiful forests around the village.
Back in Kormacit, we visit the impressive Church of Saint Georges and end our day in the village coffee house.
We say goodbye and wish you a safe flight home with a lot of good memories – and hope to
welcome you again in Cyprus!
